Oratorio Montano San Lucio
The Oratorio Montano San Lucio – also known as the San Lucio Church – is located on Monte Pianone at 1027 metres above sea level. This enchanting location overlooks the entire plateau. The primitive chapel dedicated to San Lucio, protector of herdsmen and dairymen, certainly predates 1529.
It was erected by the numerous herdsmen who, for a good part of the year, settled on the mountain to cut hay and to exploit the vast and beautiful pastures with their herds.
Interestingly, substantial restoration took place around 1600–1630, at the time of the plague that also spread extensively across the Clusone plateau. In the 1800s came news of another initiative to enlarge and improve this church, so that it could be annexed by a bell tower, a sacristy and some rooms for the custodian.
Directions: To reach the Oratorio Montano San Lucio, we recommend driving to the nearby car park on Via San Lucio then walking about 200 metres to reach the place of interest.
