Palazzo Marinoni Barca
Palazzo Marinoni Barca was the last residence of the Marinoni, a historic family in Clusone, holding an important role since the 14ᵗʰ century. Built in the 17ᵗʰ century by expanding an older residence, the Palazzo is interesting both aesthetically and historically.
Its architectural appearance is unique, especially when viewed from Via Clara Maffei, where a majestic portal in the form of a triumphal arch forms the entrance to the flanking park.
After the Marinoni family, the Palazzo became the residence of a branch of the Barca family from Bergamo. Nobleman Giovanni Battista married Countess Maria Candida (daughter of Count Giuseppe Carrara Spinelli and Lucia Vittoria Marinoni) before coming to settle in Clusone, taking possession of the Marinoni family property inherited by his wife. The Barca family preserved the signs and references of the Marinoni family in the palazzo, merely adding their own coat of arms to the arch of the entrance portal to the park.
The Palazzo Marinoni Barca is home to the Museo Arte Tempo (MAT).
Interestingly, of all the rooms in the Palazzo, only the first – located to the left of the entrance from Piazza Beato Giovanni Marinoni – preserves the complete structure of the original decorative fresco.
Directions: To visit the museum, we recommend parking on Via Dante Alighieri (in the vicinity of the cinema). Once parked, proceed north along Via Dante Alighieri towards Viale Giorgio Gusmini for 100 metres. Continue along Via Torquato Tasso for another 100 metres or so then turn left onto Via Clara Maffei. The museum will be on your right.
