Pianone – Baita delle Ortiche

This short hike goes from the locality of Pianone to the Baita delle Ortiche. The trail is excellent if you want to explore the surroundings of Pianone on an easy route suitable for nearly everyone.

Trail Description

Once you have reached the locality of Pianone, follow the dirt road towards Pizzo Formico. Further along, you will come to a signpost indicating Path 508 to Pizzo Formico and the Cappella Ilaria. A few metres before the signpost, nailed to a tree on the right, is the sign for Stala delle Urtighe. Follow the direction indicated, taking a small path that enters the forest after a few metres. Continue following the path along the slope and cross two small valleys. Along the path, you pass the Fontanino del Vendul then shortly afterwards, come to a crossroads. Continue for about 100 metres to the Baita delle Ortiche, in the direction of the Fonte di Sales. Here is a large meadow surrounded by forest, with a characteristic mountain hut.

At the crossroads near the first Baita di Pianone, continue uphill to reach the Cappella Ilaria in about 40 minutes and Pizzo Formico in about an hour.
